Learn Politics Ethic with The Leader Of Nations
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono led Friday a coordination meeting on elections together with Vice President Jusuf Kalla, saying their competition in the presidential race would not disrupt the ongoing governance.
Yudhoyono walked into the meeting room at the Secretary State office with Kalla on his side. Both smiled, and were welcomed with applause from the audience, consisting of a number of Cabinet ministers particularly those dealing with political affairs and governors or their deputies from the country's 33 provinces.
The meeting came one day after Golkar Party's national meeting on
Thursday decided that Kalla would contest in July 8 presidential election as a presidential candidate, confirming the vice president's political divorce with Yudhoyono.
The President addressed this issue while opening the coordination meeting.
"Insha Allah (God willing), we will both compete; I as presidential candidate from the Democratic Party and Pak Jusuf Kalla as presidential candidate from Golkar Party," Yudhoyono said.
"I've just spoken to him from heart to heart, and we are committed to competing fairly and giving good political learning to the people. There are times that we're together, there are times when we compete. Competition doesn't always have to end with distancing or even hostility," he added.
Kalla said nothing, only smiling during Yudhoyono's speech. The President said they had both agreed it was him who should give the explanation.
Yudhoyono said being together and then parting were common things in democracy, as long as the competition was done "fairly, with good intention and full responsibility".
The President also said he ensured that he and Kalla would continue working closely "on the same boat" to the end of their term on Oct. 20.
"There will be no changes in our roles, jobs and responsibilities."
He also asked the regional heads to keep treating he and Kalla equally despite their parting, saying it was part of administraive ethics.
That a new politic phenomenon in Indonesia because before that, every politicus in Indonesia usually consent with the he's goals.
Now we can give them value, whose god leader and bad leader? (Re-edited from thejakartapost)
